1 Merchant Taylors’ Prep School Newsletter - 16.11.2018 As always, there has been lots of great events at MTP over the past few weeks. Most recently, we have commemorated the 100th anniversary of the ending of the First World War with our Remembrance Service at School, which was again a moving occasion. We were also extremely fortunate to take our Senior Choir to perform at the Birmingham Symphony Hall last weekend, in a concert of Remembrance and Hope, which was a collaborative event for ten schools associated with the Merchant Taylors’ Company. The pupils rightly deserved the standing ovation and with an epic performances from all. Thank you to the Parents’ Association for organising the annual Fireworks Display and this year’s was as spectacular as ever. It is always wonderful to see how many parents come to this event and it is a great way to be together as a community. The Parents’ Association were also brilliant in co-hosting the social evening at the Merchant Taylors’ Hall in October; this was a truly memorable occasion and I know that everyone very much valued being in such an historic venue with friends. Just before half term, we were very lucky to be visited by the Right Honourable David Gauke MP. He has been Secretary of State for Justice and Lord Chancellor since January 2018 and was at MTP in his role as Member of Parliament for South West Hertfordshire. He spoke in assembly for Years 3-8 about his role as an MP and as a Member of the Cabinet and graciously answered some very probing and insightful questions posed by our boys. He described the experience as being as weighty as Prime Minister’s Question Time but more polite. He is pictured with our School and Vice Captains below.
