1 Merchant Taylors’ Prep School Newsletter - 17.05.2019 Welcome from the Head MTP ThisMonth Summer has finally arrived with the many and varied activities that occur in this season. Cricket is always a highlight of this term, and our cricketers continue to excel, at all levels and year groups, with notable victories for the U13s at the Belmont Cricket tournament and the U10s at the MTS Lamb Trophy. As usual in the summer, exams are nearly upon us for boys in Years 3 to 8, and all we ask is that boys try their hardest with no need for too much anxiety. We also look forward to next week’s Sports Days for Pre-Prep; theirs is the first with the Sports Days for older boys following after half term. This week, we held our annual Young Musician of the Year Competition, in which the best musicians fromMTP and MTS competed against each other. Felix Regnard-Weinrabe was the deserved overall winner, with brilliant performances from all involved. Further details are included in this newsletter. We are very fortunate to have some very distinguished guests at MTP. Recently, we were visited by Lord Finkelstein, associate editor of The Times and member of the House of Lords. As well as eruditely answering the boys’ very insightful questions, he instilled some words of wisdom about making the best of their education: read widely, appreciate Maths as much as English and find something that you are passionate about. This was fine advice and very fitting for the aims of our school. Summer is also a time when we finalise which staff are leaving MTP at the end of this term and we will sadly be saying goodbye to the following: Miss Leach, who has been a great teacher in Y1 and is moving to a school closer to her home; Mrs. Ciccone, one of our very hard working teaching assistants who has been offered a job to teach Nursery in another school; Mr. Rice, who is finally retiring this summer having given us many valuable years at our school; and Mrs. Crossan, who is finally retiring after 20 years of brilliant service for our school. All will be missed and we wish them much happiness for the future. Dr McNerney | Head of Merchant Taylors’ Prep
