47 Merchant Taylors’ Prep School Newsletter - 16.12.2022 MTP History Motte and Bailey Castles This term, the boys in Year 5 have been learning about the Normans. After learning about the Battle of Hastings, they learned about the stepping-stones which William the Conqueror used to secure his control of England. One was Motte and Bailey castles - they completed a homework project where they were challenged to show the features of a castle in a creative manner. Some boys drew pictures, others constructed models whilst many used technology, utilising Minecraft. I was blown away by their creativity and imagination and also their ability to explain the relevance of certain features for William’s campaign. Mrs Waddell Head of History
