32 Merchant Taylors’ Prep School Newsletter - 09.02.2023 MTP Art andDesign On January 30th two teams of Year 5 budding engineers visited St. John’s School for their annual Design Technology Challenge. Once there, the boys had the task explained to them by Mrs McSween, Head of Design Technology at St. John’s. The teams were mixed with pupils from other local schools. The task was to create a balloon robot inspired by Baymax from Big Hero 6 and provide it with armour to stop it getting damaged if dropped or if a pin was used on it. It was an extremely tricky challenge and the boys had to consider lots of different aspects if their robots were to pass the tests at the end of the day. Collaboration was all important, as well as listening and great constructing skills. All the participants from MTP did fantastically well, and two of our teams finished in first and second place! So, a successful and enjoyable day all around and we want to thank St. John’s for hosting the event.
