Colours Collide and Curiosity Thrives in Reception

Writes Sarah Razzell, Reception Teacher

The Reception boys have been busy mixing, stirring, splashing and exploring both indoors and outdoors. In the classroom, they became little chefs as they mixed ingredients to make delicious banana pancakes, and little artists as they blended paints to discover new shades and colours.

They experimented with different painting tools such as pipettes, brushes and rollers, watching how each one created exciting patterns and textures. Outside, the boys got wonderfully messy mixing mud, water and stones to build imaginative dinosaur habitats. They were also fascinated to see what happened when they mixed oil with water and paint to create colourful lava lamp effects. Through all this playful experimenting, the boys have been discovering how materials behave while taking risks and developing their curiosity and imagination.
