Writes Nicholas Stuart, Director of Music
Later this term, 13 boys will be sitting Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) grade exams. Preparation for these exams requires a great deal of effort and perseverance over a sustained period, and they are an excellent way for our boys to have their hard work formally recognised. Each exam comprises the performance of three pieces alongside a series of technical and musicianship tests, including scales and arpeggios, sightreading and aural skills.
Performing is an exciting but often nerve-wracking experience, and for many boys next week’s exams will be their first. To help them prepare for this – and to give them an opportunity to share their music making with the wider school community – each of our exam candidates participated in a recital where they performed one of their grade exam pieces. The programme for the recital was as follows:
| Name | Instrument | Piece |
| Adam K. | Singing | Simple Things |
| Vansh S. | Piano | A Little Song |
| Kiaan V. | Guitar | Ecossaise |
| Vian P. | Singing | The Miller of Dee |
| Roshav G. | Guitar | The Old Firework Maker |
| Caelan B. | Piano | Song of Erin |
| Aythan H. | Guitar | Wobbegong Waltz |
| Thomas H. | Piano | Berry Smoothie |
| Vivaan N. | Guitar | Sur le pont d’avignon |
| Yemo S. | Piano | Remember Me |
| Zain B. | Guitar | Vltava |
| Jayde L. | Oboe | Air and rondo |
All the boys played excellently, and we are hugely proud of them. We wish them every success as they continue their final exam preparations over the coming weeks.
