We encourage prospective pupils and their families to visit Taylors’ at one of our termly Open Mornings to get a sense of what the school is really like.
Merchant Taylors’ Prep offers a variety of entry points at both Prep and Pre-Prep levels. You can find out more about what the journey to becoming a Taylors’ pupil looks like below. If you have any questions please contact admissions@mtpn.org.uk to find out more.
Our early years assessments are play-based, and children will be invited to play with other children and with our Nursery staff.
Our assessment criteria are three-fold. First, we are looking for signs that children will take direction from one of the teachers and respond to them. Second, we are looking for signs of sociability, and finally, we are looking to see that their oral language is developing.
We want to see children at this age having fun, engaging with each other and our teachers and showing the inquisitive nature we seek to nurture here.

You can submit your initial application at any point by completing the form here. Applications for 3+ must be registered by mid October the year prior to your sons desired entry.
Our assessments are play-based and designed to ensure a welcoming and engaging experience for every child. Each session lasts approximately 45 minutes and takes place in small groups of 10–15 boys.
Depending on the needs of each individual child, parents are invited either to remain in the room during the assessment or to wait in a room next door, where they are welcome to speak with staff and learn more about the school.
The sessions are led by our highly experienced early years staff, who are skilled in supporting young children through gentle encouragement and positive interaction. Our aim is for every child to feel at ease, enjoy themselves, and have a relaxed and enjoyable introduction to our school community.
A few weeks after the assessment, you will receive an email notifying you if you have been offered a place.
