We encourage prospective pupils and their families to visit Taylors’ at one of our termly Open Mornings to get a sense of what the school is really like.
Merchant Taylors’ Prep offers a variety of entry points at both Prep and Pre-Prep levels. You can find out more about what the journey to becoming a Taylors’ pupil looks like below. If you have any questions please contact admissions@mtpn.org.uk to find out more.
Our early years are play-based and children will be invited to play with other children and with our teaching staff.
Our assessment criteria are three-fold. First, we are looking for signs that children will take direction from one of the teachers and respond to them. Second, we are looking for signs of sociability and finally we are looking to see that their oral language is developing.
“We really enjoy the small group assessments for potential Taylors’ boys. They give us a chance to engage with them based on our Early Learning Goals and give them their first taste of the exciting journey ahead in their education.”
Colette Quinlivan, Head of Pre-Prep

You can submit your initial application at any point by completing the form here. Applications for 4+must be registered by 17 October the year prior to your sons desired entry.
Candidates are invited to school in groups of 10-15 boys for a session that lasts about an hour.
The assessments are informal and are based on the Early Learning Goals of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. We are looking for teachability and sociability in our 4+ assessments. We are not looking to find out what the children know but whether they have the potential to flourish in our learning environment.
After the assessment we will contact your sons current nursery for a written reference.
A few weeks after the assessment, you will recieve an email notifying you if you have been offered a place.
