Our boys learn that their mental health is just as important as their physical health, and that the two are interconnected. Through our Mental Health Hygiene programme they are equipped to handle the ups and downs of life in a healthy manner.
Our boys learn that mental health is just as important as physical health – and that the two are deeply connected. Through our Mental Health Hygiene programme, they gain practical tools and strategies to navigate life’s ups and downs with resilience, self-awareness, and a healthy mindset.
Like physical health, mental health is a continuum, and everyone can experience good mental health and episodes of poor mental health. Though we cannot prevent pupils from experience adversity in life, we teach them that it is important to be aware of how they feel, and, if they feel unhappy or scared, it is right and normal to talk to a trusted adult.

GREAT DREAM
Boys discover that healthy attitudes and habits can improve our mental health. At Merchant Taylors’ Prep, we use GREAT DREAM from the charity Action for Happiness as the basis for regular assemblies and activities in our pastoral groups.
In addition, other topics regularly covered are the importance of a regular sleep routine and balanced diet. During Children’s Mental Health Week in February, our children fundraise to raise awareness of the importance of understanding mental health, and that, when they do need help, they should tell a trusted adult.
