'Oliver!' A Musical Masterpiece: Year 6 Drama Performance

Writes Aarav K. and Jimi A. (both Y6)

The Year 6 performance of Oliver was a fun and enjoyable experience for all of us, and the audience. All boys had a role to play, and all boys had to work together to eventually achieve the satisfaction of having an engaging and entertaining performance.

Everyone enjoyed the experience and had rehearsal time to make the play come to life. The sets, costumes and props were all considered and placed perfectly into the set to create the scaffolding and backbone of the play, which added to the already extraordinary talent of the boys. The story was clear and visual with jokes and songs for the audience to enjoy. The music was sung by the boys, and accompanied by a five-piece band. Together, they performed as an incredible musically gifted team that gave the play more life and colour.

The talent of the boys created an enchanting atmosphere. The choreography was incredible and really showed the true meaning whether it was emotional or comedic. The choreography combined with the music never ceased to amaze the audience.

The play was lit up by an amazing display of lighting and sound which created a Victorian environment that was extremely captivating and exciting. In this play, every detail was important. The lighting was plotted impeccably, and the costumes were perfect so that the show was alive. In this play, the boys had to work together and cooperate to make two fantastic nights of Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens. This play was adapted by Lionel Bart into the incredible theatrical performance achieved by Year 6 and Mr Hinton’s team. It was an ambitious play for Year 6, the stage crew and the team were supportive and reliable to help carry out the overall enactment.

This 'Oliver!' was a testament not only to talent, but to teamwork, resilience and creativity. A truly memorable and uplifting achievement. Bravo to all involved!

The Year 8 students, costume designer, stage manager, lighting designer, and Mr Hinton were key team members, and components that without the play would not have prevailed. They helped create the tech, costumes and sets to make the play come to life. Overall, this play was a delight for everyone including the boys and the team. They were, overall, extremely happy and proud with the play that they had produced.
