Year 1 and Year 2 Have a Stellar Time at Bayfordbury Observatory

The boys visited Bayfordbury Observatory, one of the largest teaching observatories in the UK, on individual trips as part of their learning about Space. The experience provided a fascinating way to learn about space beyond the classroom.  An enriching set of activities took place with interactive presentations, paper rocket workshops, educational planetarium show, and a tour of large telescopes!

Year 1

Great fun was had with the creation of paper rockets as the boys launched them high into the air watching above as they whizzed away. Next up was the visit to the planetarium which gave everyone a chance to amaze the staff with all the fantastic space facts they knew. In the observatory they saw some incredible telescopes and learned how scientists explore the night sky. The boys’ behaviour was brilliant, and they represented the school wonderfully.

Year 2

The trip to Bayfordbury was certainly the highlight of everyone’s week. The boys set off two by two for the observatory and were impeccably behaved from start to finish. Throughout the visit they asked impressive and thoughtful questions, so much so that the astrophysicists leading the session commented on how knowledgeable and enthusiastic they were. In fact, they remarked that they had rarely met a school group who knew so much about space and showed such genuine curiosity. We could not have been prouder of the boys and the way they represented the school. A special thank you to Mr Crook, who also attended the trip and kept everyone entertained at lunchtime with some excellent space jokes! It was a wonderful couple of days!
