Year 3 Visit to Wembley Central Mosque

Year 3 visited Wembley Central Mosque on a guided tour, where they learnt about Islamic traditions, prayer rituals, and the features of the mosque, providing valuable real-world context to their classroom learning. The boys have written accounts of what they took away from their visit.

‘Something New I Learnt’

I learnt that Friday is the Muslims holy day and that they face Mecca when they pray. You have to take your shoes off when you enter the mosque and there is a special room with seats where Muslims can wash before praying. I also learnt that if you are rich, in Muslim society you give 2.5% of your savings to charity each year.

‘What We Did’

When we entered the mosque, we needed to take our shoes off and put them on the wooden shelves. This keeps the carpet clean as Muslims touch their heads to the floor when praying. Then we went into a different room and had a presentation by the Imam based on the 5 Pillars of Islam which are Faith, Prayer, Charity, Fasting and Pilgrimage. After that we had a quiz which was very fun. Next, we explored the washrooms and learnt that Muslims washed their feet, face and arms before praying. Then we heard the Call to Prayer. Finally, we were given some fruit to eat before coming back to school.
