On the last week before half-term, we were joined by the Year 5 boys from our Prep school for a Discovery Day. A chance for the boys to explore, try new things and get a feel for what life at the Senior School is like.
The workshop started off with an introduction from Mr Sadler, Head of Robotics who explained what the session would cover and setting scene for an hour of friendly competition.
The aim of the workshop was to build a robot chassis made from VEX parts with two wheels that make the robot move and then compete in a robot football tournament to see which team were the best builders and pilots.
The boys studiously constructed their robots, ready to go for a first test run. The teams did a great job assembling their robots and implemented the code needed to run the robots without any errors leaving the playing field even for the robotic kick-around to come.
The stage was set for a final football match to put their robots to the test, the boys played excellently piloting their robots skilfully in a serious of hotly contested matches. After a few matches, it was time to step up the game. The teams were given access to a wide variety of parts that they could use to add upgrades to their robots to help them in the game.
At the end of the session, the boys waved goodbye to their robotics teammates and prepared for the next activity in the day.
Thank you to the DET Department for helping run the sessions!
