Students Shine in the Create.Code.Change Competition!

Writes Georgina Hibberd, Head of Computing

Our pupils have once again demonstrated their creativity, technical skill and commitment to global citizenship through their outstanding work in the Vibe Coding Create, Code, Change competition. Using Canva MTP Pupils were challenged to select a United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) and design a digital prototype that could make a real difference in the world.

We are thrilled to announce that two of our teams earned awards, including a Third-Place finish and a Special Recognition for Ethics & Accessibility. Congratulations to Arin S., Haziq A. and Rafael S. (Year 8), whose project exploring SDG 14: Life Below Water earned them Third Place in the final judging. Their app, Advanced Ocean Environmental Simulation, allows users to adjust variables such as climate conditions and ocean pollution levels to see how these changes impact marine ecosystems. Through this immersive simulation, the team aimed to teach users about the threats facing our oceans in an engaging and scientifically grounded way. A remarkable achievement and a powerful example of how coding can inspire environmental awareness.

“Your immersive approach to ocean health education really impressed the judges. The way you brought environmental issues to life through simulation showed both creativity and technical skill that was hard to ignore. Earning third place is no small feat, and you should be incredibly proud of what you built.”
The judges were highly impressed with Arin S., Haziq A. and Rafael S.

Our talented Year 6 team of William C. and Dev G. also received special recognition for their exceptional focus on accessibility and ethics, earning the award for The Inclusion Hero (Best Ethics & Accessibility). Working on SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, the team designed a thoughtful nation building app that helps users support the redevelopment of a fictionalised version of Uganda. What set their project apart was their commitment to inclusivity having the features of a dyslexia-friendly and colour-blind mode. These features ensured the app could be accessed and enjoyed by a wider range of users.

“Your project showed a real commitment to civic engagement and inclusivity… Your focus on making sure everyone can participate is exactly what this competition is about.”
The judges praised William C. and Dev G. for their dedication

Both teams demonstrated what makes our school community special: innovation, compassion and a drive to make the world better. Whether tackling ocean pollution or building ethical, accessible tools for civic development, our students showed exactly why technology education matters. A huge well done to all involved, you are shaping the future!
