Writes Ms Jobbins, Year 1 Teacher

The children were working incredibly hard last week as they prepared for our Harvest Assembly, and we are so proud of the assembly that they delivered!

They worked hard to practice their songs, speaking parts and actions, showing wonderful enthusiasm and commitment throughout. It has been lovely to see their confidence grow as they rehearsed together, remembered their words and learnt to listen carefully to one another. Their teamwork has been fantastic, and their beautiful Harvest hats have been a wonderful addition! The children were so excited to wear them and share their hard work with others.

On the day, the extent of their efforts shone through as they performed brilliantly in front of an audience made up of their parents and Year 2. Well done to the boys, and thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate Harvest together.

This half-term we have also enjoyed a fantastic school trip to Mill Farm, where the children learnt all about the fascinating process of bread making! They discovered how wheat is grown and harvested before being milled into flour, and explored the different stages involved in turning simple ingredients into a delicious loaf of bread.

One of the highlights of the visit was having the opportunity to make their own bread, getting hands-on with the ingredients and learning how flour, water and other ingredients come together to create dough. The children were able to see the process in action and gain a greater understanding of where our food comes from.

Alongside bread making, the children took part in a range of fun, farm-themed activities, helping them to explore the mill and learn more about its purpose and how it works. It was a wonderful opportunity to bring our learning to life, ask questions and make exciting discoveries beyond the classroom. The children thoroughly enjoyed this hands-on experience and returned with lots of new knowledge, stories to share and a greater appreciation of the journey from field to table!

It has been a lovely half-term filled with learning, teamwork and memorable experiences, and we are incredibly proud of the children’s enthusiasm, curiosity and hard work. We look forward to sharing more of our learning and adventures next half-term!
